I have some different chains. Some have the tab on the drive link behind the raker, but it is the same size and you can't see it when it's straight. So, I guess that kickback tab is only exposed on the tip as it bends around the nose?

I should know this but didn't just got a new saw so I'll keep this in mind. Thanks.

Hi, I'd like to say thank you for your videos and this channel, as a new comer to chainsaws, of which I have a very healthy respect of and am ultra cautious, oh and yes I wear full safety boots, chaps, gloves and helmet. I'm a domestic user only, mostly chainsawing up 5 tons of delivered tree trunks and then splitting for firewood on an annual basis. I think your reviews, advice and comments are grounded in straight forward common sense, gained from many years practical experience. Perfect for someone like me, simple and concise advice. Can I ask for videos on chain sharpening, chainsaw maintenance, carburettor maintenance and anything else you think appropriate for the newbee.

I know this will cause an argument but its totally fine to leave a slight bit of slack in the chain. Not alot but it doesn't need to be snap tight..aslong as the teeth are running in the bar groove. I remember a STIHL technician telling me this about 20 years ago and the dangers of over tensioning. In fact the chain and cutting angles are designed with this in mind.

I heard about this years ago so got in the habit of doing just what you show: slack the chain at the end of the work day. I guess it's easy to forget that a hot chain gets longer and so a cooling chain must have an allowance, via slacking, for it to get shorter.

This is great to know; I finished using saw little bit ago and after listening went to relax the chain

Good Tip James 😊 Needle Bearing on Sprocket can use cleaned and Greased, just like bar tip sprocket, I Find Air like you Use is the Best Way and so Helpful makes saw run Optimum. This is in no way a hidden killer, it has been clearly stated in the user manuals for ever, from the 1950-60, as long as there has been chainsaws.

I have used chainsaw for 30 years, but i have never thought about this, but it make sense.

Really clear and helpful explanation, thank you. I have a long & short lever, but mostly use them for hung up trees. Most trees I cut are deciduous, so relatively easy to get a line up there which I often do for just in case of this. I wonder if a lever is used more for conifers ?
